Baritone

From innovative performances of Mozart and Handel to the contemporary American concert and stage repertoire, bass-baritone William Heim has attracted critical attention and acclaim for his artistry. The Baltimore Sun hailed him as “[one] of the most engaging vocalists based in the area.” The Washington Post declared Mr. Heim “an exemplary Count” (Le nozze di Figaro), “…clearly chosen for his acting skills as much as vocal ability, with gratifying results.” Mr. Heim made his New York début in 2004 at the Guggenheim Museum’s Works and Process series, as part of the premier of John Musto’s critically acclaimed opera, Volpone. Roles for Mr. Heim include Sam (Trouble in Tahiti), Marullo (Rigoletto), Count Almaviva (Le nozze di Figaro), Vicar Gedge (Albert Herring), Taddeo (Italian Girl in Algiers), Nardo (La finta giardiniera), Strephon (Iolanthe), Danilo (Merry Widow), Falke (Die Fledermaus), Man with a suitcase (Postcard from Morocco), and Police Officer/Judge (Volpone). Oratorio credits include Christ lag in Todesbanden (Bach), Magnificat (Bach), Duruflé Requiem, Fauré Requiem, Messiah (Handel), The Creation (Haydn), Mozart Requiem, Christmas Oratorio (Saint-Saëns), and Dona nobis pacem (Vaughan Williams).

Mr. Heim has been featured as a soloist with Wolf Trap Opera Company, Baltimore Opera, Choral Arts Society of Washington, Albany Pro Musica, Brevard Music Center, the IN Series, Opera Vivente, Maryland Handel Festival, Opera AACC, Longview Opera, The Advent Project, ChorSymphonica, and the Old Presbyterian Meeting House Festival Choir.

William Heim graduated from St. Olaf College magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Music in Church Music. He attended Southern Methodist University for Master of Music degrees in both Conducting and Vocal Performance, and he received his Doctor of Musical Arts from University of Maryland-College Park. He has served on the faculties of The College of Charleston, Towson University, and the University of Maryland-College Park. Currently he teaches General and Vocal Music at Abingdon Elementary School in Arlington, Virginia.
