“Creativity takes courage.” - Henri Matisse

As we launch into our 2025-2026 season, it is astounding to reflect back to that hot summer day in 2006 when the spark that would become Words&Music was first lit. Little did we know when we did that first read through of Ned Rorem’s Evidence of Things Not Seen that we were setting off on a decade spanning journey that would include commissioning works, collaborating with other ensembles, working with diverse composers, and oh, so many wonderful friends and colleagues along the way! And the music! A typical Words&Music concert is an eclectic experience interweaving classical and popular repertoire in dialogue with each other. You might wonder how J.S. Bach, David Bowie and Monty Python could relate…come to a Words&Music concert and find out!

In 2010, we took the big step to become a registered 501(c) nonprofit corporation. Now, fifteen years later, we have taken the next step and launched the Words&Music, Inc. Endowment Fund. This new fund will enable us to continue our innovative programs as well as pursue larger projects such as commissioning new music, organizing a festival to focus on vocal chamber music, initiate outreach programs for students, and more. We encourage you to check back with our web site and see what is up next as well as what we’re working towards for the future.

About Words & Music

The mission of Words&Music, Inc. is to present exceptional performances of both traditional and newly commissioned compositions in the vocal chamber music repertoire. We aim to bring beautiful music to the forefront while giving equal attention to the wonderful poetry and prose that inspire each work. Our efforts include both educational and performance initiatives throughout our community.
